Recently noticed that programs seem to take an increasingly longer time to open. After doubble clicking, a desk icon will show selected and then just hang-up excessively until the program eventually opens. All this seems to roughly coincide with my converting my file system from FAT32 to NTFS. Any help, greatly appreciated :(

    giannoni: Welcome to the BBS!

By any chance have you recently downloaded Microsoft security patch MS 811493? There are other threads in this same Windows XP forum reporting and discussing problems similar to the ones you describe that were probably caused by that patch. Check them out and get back to us. Good luck.

    As a Matter of Fact ! ...

The very first time I noticed it was immediately after a recent MS Security Patch! What can be done? (I'll be checking the other posts) Thanks ...

    Fixed At Last ! ...

Yep ! & Thanks to this BBS, removing 811493 completely cured my problem with slow program starts. I've been troubleshooting this forEVER. ******* around with Prefetcher, bought MemBoost (not too bad; gets me about 30 meg more RAM for $19.95), went through tedious disabling of selected Services, etc., etc., & all I had to do was dump 811493. All's well that ends well :p
