I installed a text to speech program for my half-blind Mom. It's Polish program, called Expressivo (http://www.expressivo.com/movie/introduction.html).
It's suppose to install Firefox/Thunderbird extensions, but when I go to program's "Options ", Firefox, and Thunderbird fields are greyed out, as seen here:

Going to Expressivo installation directory, I found a subdirectory, which, I believe, is responsible for Firefox/Thunderbird integration. I figured, it would be possible to fix that integration manually, but I'm not sure which files to copy from that subdirectory, and paste where in Firefox/Thunderbird.
Here is a screenshot of that subdirectory:

    Thank you...:)

Weekend boards are generally slow, may get a faster response from program author .... Question form
It is always helpful to include your OS version, browser/email version. If running two or more browsers/email clients, which one is set at default. The few times I have contacted program authors/FF extensions per problems, they have always been responsive and helpful. Keep us posted.

Let me tell you what I see. And, then let me know if I am seeing the right stuff.
I tried the english free demo. It is an .exe file of almost 100 MB. That stopped me. Let's say that I would have downloaded and installed Expressivo. now what?
It is not extention of Firefox/Thunderbird, but rather Firefox/Thunderbird are extentions of Expressivo. That is an entirely different thing. I did not have the time to look at the website if Thunderbird/Firefox are even compatible.
Do you understand what is my quandary.

OK, I did send a question to the author, already. By posting my question here, I just wanted to go two ways, and have couple of opinions.
BTW, my system is Win2K, my primary browser - Firefox, e-mail client - Thunderbird.
As far, as I can see, Expressivo, should be compatible with Firefox, as you can see here: http://www.expressivo.com/application/expressivo_with_firefox.html:
It should also be compatible with Thunderbird, as seen here:
    http://www.expressivo.com/application/talking_e-mail_box.html:
Expressivo should display three extra buttons in each program, as it does in Internet Explorer. In my IE, it looks like this:

Some suggestions - don't know how many views / solutions you have tried?

Firefox Main tool bar - Click on views - Toolbar (highlight)
Any new toolbars available for Expressivo?

Firefox Main tool bar - right click - Customize (select)
Any icons for Expressivo you can drag to toolbar??

This is very confusing. I thought Expressivo had to have a plugin for each browser, but this seems to be the other way around.
Please bear with me, because I tried to download Expressivo, but it would have taken an inordinate amount of time, and, may be there is a total misunderstanding on my part.
Do you have Expressivo installed? In my case, all I could see was an .exe installer file. Did you use anything else?
As Dennis said the only way to make sure that there is anything in Firefox is to look in view|toolbars|customize. An .exe file should not be in the Addons.
Could you tell me what you did?
    The download should be :Expressivo_1_2_2_Jennifer_RC_Demo.exe
I am trying to download the entire Demo, almost 105 MB. Is it what you have?
I have 14 min. to go. I will let you know what happens.

Ok. I installed it. During the installation, I noticed intregration. I had all my programs checked, and after installation, I noticed that Tools|Settings of Expressivo had checked IE, Firefox and Thunderbird.
The icons were on the expected toolbar, and there an Expressivo1.0 addon for Firefox. It works fine, but, it is hilarious, when it places the sales pitch every ten lines or so. Uhuh! this voice is not permitted, and purchasing the license should remove the voice and the background music. I, actually, like Jennifer's voice. The temporary license is 60 days.
Now, let's hope that I can get rid of this junk, without affecting my programs.
If Tools|Settings|Advanced|Integration does not have Firefox and Thunderbird checked, the icons would not be seen. I got the English version. So, don't look, first in Firefox. Look in Expressivo, as I had thought in first place.
Now, I am going to uninstall Expressivo. I will let you know if there is any problem.

Thank you for all your effort.
I have a full version installed, and if you look at my first post, and links to my screenshots, you'll see that in my case integration radio-buttons for Mozilla, and Thunderbird are greyed out, so I can't put checkmarks into them.
I understand, that this is the main reason, I can't see Expressivo buttons in Firefox, and Thunderbird.
I'm just in process of checking my mail, so I don't know, if I have any response from the author.
BTW...I tried to reinstall with same result.

I removed Expressivo, so I have no way to check how I got there. But, I clearly recall having done my selection of browser before I got to the point shown in the screenshots. At least, the English free version works. If completely uninstalled, and I had also my Registry cleaned, you should see if a choice is given or not. But, actually, the two browsers, and Thunderbird were prechecked.
Could it be the Polish version? I would be screaming and yelling, by now, if I would be charged for something which works so poorly.

Could you share with us about their advice? From what I have tried, the English version works.

Good luck. ,ivo files do exist, but I never saw one.
The Microsoft link is very good, but it tells me that it is a Windows settings first.
