If this should be in Other Software, would someone please move it.

A friend (WinXP Home SP3) is trying to install Printshop 2.0 but it won't start automatically nor can we get it to run manually. In her computer, we keep getting a message to put a CD in the drive while the Printshop disk is in the drive. I tried the Printshop disk in my computer and it started automatically with no problem.

We tried a photo slideshow CD in her machine and it started and ran fine. I uninstalled the CD drive and restarted the computer and it found and reinstalled the CD but the result was the same. I have been to the Broderbund site but couldn't find anything there. Any ideas as to what I am missing?

Couple specs of dust inside the drive could cause this.... So could a couple little scratches/or dirt on the cd.

You could also check that Autorun is not disabled for the CD drive.

1.Open Windows Explorer by pressing the Windows + "e" key.

2.Right-click the desired CD-ROM and select Properties from the menu.

    3.Select the AutoPlay tab.

4.Select each item from the pulldown list and for the Action to perform, select "Take no action" to disable autorun, or pick the apporpriate action to take if enabling autorun.

    5.Select OK.

Try copying the CD to a pen drive on your computer and transfer it to the hard drive of the other computer and run the install .exe from there.

Either the CD or the CD-ROM is a little picky :)

Problem solved. Thanks for all the suggestions. I tried cleaning the CD and drive and resetting the AutoPlay but the computer still didn't recognize the CD. It works in other computers - just not hers. However, her CD drive starts other CDs, such as Calendar Maker, with no problem. It appears that, as Pete suggested, a finicky CD and CD drive that didn't get along.

The suggestion to copy the CD to a flash drive and then to her hard drive worked like a charm. The program is up and running. Once again - WindowsBBS to the rescue.
