My apologies in advance, but I am up to my earholes in alligators and do not want to take the time to figure this out myself...

Am I right in thinking that an installed processor can be removed from a board and replaced (with a faster one...)?

The processor is just glued on, right? And it can be removed, but is it easy to do that, and is it in any way not an advisable procedure??? Any compatibility concerns of the new processor with the old board?

    Thanx...

Yes, they can be removed and replaced with a faster one.
You would need to look up what the motherboard can support.
My old dead computer [awaiting resurrection] would only support a Socket 7 166 MMX or 200 MMX Intel processor, my current computer will use any Intel Socket 478 processor.
The heat sink on some boards are sometimes glued onto the processor, usually a thermal gel glue. These are not easy to take off.
If you remove the fan and remove the heat sink and hopefully it lifts right off, you will see a small lever to lift, then the processor just lifts out.
Be careful not to bend any pins on the processor, if one is out of line, it will not drop in. They are not easy to get them or the one straight.
Do not force anything, removing or installing, and use anti static precautions.
