Noticed that ctfmon.exe started up with the installation of IE7.

ctfmon is a process used by MS Office for the Language Bar and Speech and Handwriting recognition and part of the OS. Whether you have MS Office or not, that process will be present with IE7 for IE7's Language bar which I don't use and shut off, and I don't have MS Office installed.

If you don't need that functionality, you can stop it from starting up.

From the Start menu > Control Panel > Regional and Language Options, then click Languages tab, then Details, then Advanced tab, then put a check next to “Turn off advanced text service” and hit Apply.

This removes ctfmon.exe from the running processes and from starting up on boot up.

    Regards - Charles

    Thanks.
    Microsoft loves to autostart ctfmon.

    Hi Bill,

It is ubiquitous isn't it, its running on most systems I've looked at.

    Regards - Charles

I do not have the complete Microsoft Office, just Microsoft Word. I don't think I need it for Word.
