Is it possible to click on a program Icon to open each time in the same part of the screen. Thank you.

    Hi Bobby,

There's a freeware program called AutoSizer which may allow you to do what you want. I use it primarily to either maximize windows when they open, or to center smaller windows on the screen. It also has the ability to open program windows at specific locations determined by the user.

I said "may allow" in the first sentence because some windows refuse to be "handled ". For the price, though, it's worth a try.

hi JSS3rd, thanks for the information. I am not absolutely sure, at one time this could be done with Windows, by placing the window on the screen and use of Windows Tools. It allowed the window to open where set at last session. I can not find reference in Windows 7 Help & Support, which proves that I am mistaken. Thanks, Bobby.

On Windows 7 Professional, I have positioned a number of program windows where I want them and they stay put. It is Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office programs that I open from the start menu. I like a clean desktop but to test, I created shortcuts on the desktop - they open and position the windows in the same positions.

Have you installed something that might prevent "manual positioning "?

Christer, I am not aware or do I have any software installed that you mention. What I would like is to open a window, position it on the screen and each time that I start the window will be in the same position selected. My Window 7 Premium (as installed by Compac computer). Thank you, Bobby.

Open the app. Hold the CTRL key the whole time while you drag the window to where you want it and then close the app.

Then reopen the app to see if that did the trick.

Suggestion appreciated. It appears to work in some cases, if software is set to a predetermined screen and size by the writer of software then it does not apply. I am satisfied in that some windows do. Thank you, Bobby.

I have tried several windows using suggested method, unfortunately it is not working after a reboot of the computer, screens return to the centre position. I feel certain some years ago it could be carried out using Windows ?, Windows 7 certainly does not appear to have this function.

Thank you Steve, it is a relief in finding out that in the past Microsoft did indeed have a tool to permanently position a window on the monitor screen. You mention a neat software that will just do what I require, can you please tell me where this can be obtained from. Thank you Bobby.

Scroll to the bottom of the page opened by the link in Steve's post. There's a download link there.

jss3rd, thank you. I downloaded the software and it installed OK. However it appears to do nothing but it could be working. According to the Help Notes, it has two version 32bit and 64 bit (I require 64 bit) and should be unzipped. I just installed and clicking the icon opens a window with various boxes ticked/unticked. Have I missed a step or is the software correctly installed?
    Thanks, Bobby.

Sorry, Bobby, I couldn't tell you, as I haven't used the program.

Notes states that the 32bits may not work with a computer set with 64 bits as is in my case. What is the procedure to down load ShellFolderFix 64 bits? Thanks Bobby.

It would be a lot easier to assist you if you would fill out your System Specifications.

I looked into my specifications and checked for accuracy, saved. Specifications were entered and saved when I joined in 2009, not understand as to why this information is not made available to members. I would appreciate your comments. Thank you, Bobby.

Windows 7 Home Premium 64bits. HP Presario Desktop, 8Gb memory. 1Tb + 2Tb hard rives.

After you enter your System Specs and save changes. Navigate to Edit Options\Thread Display Options\Show System Specifications select Yes. Scroll down to and click on Save Changes.

My Specifications should be now available.
Software appears not to be working, reason could be it is installed in 32bits instead of 64bits as in my case. Thanks Bobby.

Any further suggestions in obtaining or installing the 64bits version? Thanks Bobby.
