problems with WinRAR

hey all,

A friend of mine has a big problem with RAR archives. Everything she downloads and tries to unpack gives a crc error. If she checks the archive with the .sfv file each file gives an crc error. All files work fine for me if i download them from the same source.

She has tried downloading with another ftp client, unpacking with other archives, such as winace, but all to no avail. I ran out of suggestions. Does any1 have any?

BTW she runs win2k, but had the same problem with win98se.

Do you both have the same version of Winrar ?
Has your friend tried a re-install of it ?

yes, same version. we're both using version 3.11

When you say "yes" do you also mean your friend tried an uninstall and re-install of v3.11.
It seems to me there are some registration problems.
Have you sought help from the Winrar site ?
Note that you cannot copy Winrar to another machine,
you need the install setup.

She has used the install version of winrar and has uninstalled and reinstalled. We have tried winace as well, since i found that in some cases winace has a betetr error correction method than winrar.

What i forgot to mention is that there is a .sfv file with the archive. We have tested the archive with quicksfv. All files give a crc error, so the problem could be something different that winrar itself.

You may wish to try downloading Winzip 8.1. While setting up your configurations, include .rar files also. This may eliminate your problems.

I also forgot to mention that if she is trying to open a batch of .rar files, you must open the 1st file which is usually the .exe. When you unzip that all other parts get unzipped at the same time.

Try transferring one of those files to your computer and see if you can open them. Maybe there really are CRC errors and WinRar is working perfectly.

It could be a downloading/connection problem instead.
