problems with windows after updating critical update.

    My windows sp2 display only a wallpaper without any icons etc or the start button after I update the critical security update for internet explorer. I get the message "explorer.exe entry point cannot be found........ " What is the problem here. I have reinstall the whole thing again twice but have the same problem both times. I used multing booting in my pc. My pc is intel pentium III 866 mhz.

    Did you reinstall XP, or just SP2? If just SP2, try going back to a System Restore point before the original install, if uninstalling SP2 from Add/Remove doesn't work. You may have to boot into safe mode. While you're in safe mode, stick your XP cd in and try an SFC.

    Start > Run > cmd
    sfc /scannow

    explorer.exe entry point cannot be found........

    This error means that you have a mismatched set of files. Johanna's advice of SFC should get you back on track.
