I don't know when it happened but my recording software does not now recognise the output from the soundcard built in to my motherboard, music plays okay from the internet through my pc's speakers but the output is just not recognised by the software as a record input, when I look in to the software options nothing is offered as a selectable input it is just blank.
Any help would be very welcome, also happy new year to everybody.

Reboot the computer. Try uninstalling your sound card and then reboot and let Windows pick it back up.

Have tried this Mr Bill but it makes no difference it still does not recognise the soundcard as a recording input, in the settings part of windows 10 it says their is no input devices found

Did you use the Troubleshoot for that diagnosis?

Have tried the Troubleshoot as well but it still says no recording input detected without offering any solutions

We don't know your System specs so another question - do you have onboard sound system?
    Is the card an extra?
    Have you checked in BIOS?

All of my recording software programs do not recognise any recording input being available the soundcard is integrated into my motherboard do you think that fitting a separate soundcard might resolve the problem ?
YouTube and any other input such as cd's etc seems to play through the speakers okay it is just that there seems to be no output that is recognised by separate software programs.

    Separate
sound card could or could not solve you problem. It should but till you try it, you won't know.

What are the specs of your computer???
You are running W10 OS - if this is on an older comp which was upgraded to W10 or a comp built to handle it.
When you said you uninstalled your Soundcard - was this in Device Manager > Audio Inputs and outputs?
Did it actually show DRIVERS were installed before you carried out the uninstall and Reboot?

    Spec is as follows:
    Motherboard ..Gigabyte Z77M-D3H
Processor ..Intel i7 3770 Ivy Bridge
    Memory.. Dual DDR3 16Gb
Integrated Graphics card on motherboard Intel HD graphics 4000
sound card integrated on motherboard ..
I have completely removed the drivers from Device manager and reinstalled them but it makes no difference and yes I did upgrade to Win10 from windows 7 I am convinced that it is one of Win10 updates that have caused the problem but as I have not used the software for some time I cannot say when it might have happened, I have installed the latest version of Audacity but it still cannot find any record input

Have you tried a System Restore or uninstall last update/upgrade?
Do you have the Motherboard driver install disc that came with the board?
It sounds like your Audio is corrupted and the Gigabyte info in the Manual suggests confirming the BIOS before installing the drivers.

The motherboard driver disc says it is not supported by the operating system when I run it but it does run in compatibility mode, one thing I have noticed is that when I uninstall the drivers it just reinstalls them on startup so I am caught in a vicious circle !!!

I have installed a new sound card and now and I have several choices of record input but I cannot get any of the software to work with these record inputs even though they are now listed in the different software options drop down boxes, I have tried all sorts of settings and none seem to work,

Yes I installed the drivers for the new card and did not rely on the windows generic driver
The driver version installed is 7.12.8.1823 which is the latest I can find

Did you make the change in BIOS to disable the onboard sound?

Yes I did disable the onboard sound in the Bios before installing the new sound card, I now have record input options shown in the software and windows settings but none of the software seems to recognise any sound input to record even though I have tried all the different options in the software settings

Have you set your sound software as the Default in Settings?

Yes I have set it as the default, I have finally managed to get the sound recognised in Audacity v2.3.0 although my other older software is still refusing to recognise any input for recording
