    On the very day Seamonkey 1.1.8 was announced on this BBS, I downloaded a ZIP copy and unzipped it into the same folder where SM-1.1.7 had been located which was at C:\2-NET\SEAMONKEY

    Prior to unzipping SM-1.1.8, I deleted all the SM-1.1.7 files using Windows Explorer because 1.1.7 had also been a ZIP copy.

    SM-1.1.8 cranked up using the same profile as had SM-1.1.7 and all works fine EXCEPT:.....

    SM-1.1.8 will not display the graphics ( MAPS ) at the following URL locations:.................

    http://www.mapquest.com/

    http://maps.google.com/

    http://www.globalincidentmap.com/home.php

    AND, SM-1.1.8 will totally lock up when I go to my own Web Site at:.. http://www.raysmyth.net

    I suspected some HTML music coding within my web page was the cause for the lockup and then proved it by deleting the coding from my web page.

    Ramona and others may recall I went round and round with HTML coding a year or 2 ago but, finally worked it all out using the code shown below which worked with all browsers including Seamonkey 1.5

    <!-- Begin Sound -->
    <object data= "ray-main.mp3" type= "application/x-mplayer2" width= "0" height= "0 ">
    <param name= "src" value= "ray-main.mp3 ">
    <param name= "autostart" value= "1 ">
    <param name= "playcount" value= "1 ">
    </object>
    <!-- End Sound -->

    I have none of the above problems using Firefox or IE.

    Perhaps there is a setting in Seamonkay that is not allowing the graphics (MAPS) show however, all other graphics (images) on the web sites show up ok.

    I've had another minor problem with both SM-1.1.7 and SM-1.1.8 and that was in mail --- Sometimes SM will play the WMV attachments and at other times it will not play them at all even though it will always open Media Player 11 --- Some times it will play by LEFT clicking 2 or 3 times and if that don't work you can sometimes can get it to work by RIGHT Clicking and selecting OPEN.

    For the record, I have reinstalled the music coding on my web page and I say again - Everything works as it should with Firefox and IE

    Thanks, Ray ---- PS: I am using Windows XP Home Edition w/SP-2

    I have 1.1.8 installed, and 2.0a1 unzipped. Two separate profiles.
    I have no problem with graphics. The Google maps seems to be more complex in 1.1.8, but placing the address in the Search produces the same results.
    As for the raysmith.com site, I have no problem navigating it with both browser. The major difference is that there was no sound on opening the page in 2.0a1.
    With 1.1.8, having the mediaplayer connectivity add-on, it opened WMP, and played intro, Welcome to my teepee.
    I am pretty sure that 2.0a1 is much simpler.1.1.8 is set to accept all images.
    In other words, I have no problem.

    Ray,

    The first thing that comes to mind, since you weren't having this problem with the previous version of SM, is either your Firewall, and if you use Norton Internet Security, it could be the problem.

    Ray,

    Check these settings to ensure they were carried over from the previous version:

    Edit | Preferences | Privacy & Security | Cookies
    Allow all cookies
    Accept cookies normally

    Scroll down to: Manage Cookies and Sites
    Click: Cookies Manager | Cookie Sites Tab
    Add: www.mapquest.com
    Click: Allow

    Do the same for the other sites you can't access

    Edit | Preferences | Privacy & Security | Images
    Enable: Accept all images

    Scroll down to: Animated images should loop
    Enable: As many times as the image specifies
    Click: Manage Image Permissions Tab
    Add: www.mapquest.com
    Click: Allow

    Ramona,
    animated images are set, by default, to loop as many times as images specify. I just changed to once. It makes no difference.

    Thanks, Ramona and Westside -- I tried the settings Ramona suggested and in fact they were already set as she suggested.

    I did add the www.mapquest.com to both the COOKIE and IMAGE settings but, nothing changed and I still have the problem.

    After putting my own home address in and asking mapquest to retrieve the file it puts up a gray area and it says loading but, nothing ever loads.

    Don't fret too much over this, there will be a new version one day and all will work again. However, I must say that after loosing the mail 3 times with SM-1.1.7 and now SM-1.1.8 has this glitch my confidence level is getting a little low.

    I have Firefox and Thunderbird and I am starting to bounce back and forth between them and Seamonkey.

    But, of course I always reach for Seamonkey and the suite arrangement first because that is my comfort zone and frankly my rathers.

    This will work itself out but, I thought i would throw it out there to see if anyone else had the problem because with me the condition does exist and I have no idea why it does with my Seamonkey and not Westside's or yours.

    Thanks, Ray

    Ray,

    You will never lose your mail if you make a daily backup of your Profiles folder. ;)

    Well now you may recall, that I use Ghost 10.0 and it is set to do a full backup of everything at 2 PM each morning but, when I lost the mail back in January, for some reason never determined, even the backups were corrupt.

    My computer will be 5 years old in April so maybe it is getting ready to blow up.

    It has been rebooting itself 2 or 3 times a day lately for absolutly no reason and it's never done that before. I keep my computer on 24/7 and it will reboot when I'm not even in the room.

    Due to other things needing done, like IRS taxes, I've not take the time to look into the reason for the reboots.

    I do think you, Westside and the others for all the help you provide myself and others.

    Cheers, Ray

    I know how you feel about an aging computer. I had mine with Win98, and, after 3 yrs, the hard drive kicked the bucket, but with ample warnings, so, I was able to save everything of importance. So, I got another hard drive, and, it lasted another four years. This time, I got a new computer with XP. I am using a Seagate/Maxtor external drive, and, just completed an automatic update, with no incidents. I don't know about your software, but my software ignore system, and hidden files, even if unhidden. So, I have to make copies of hidden profile folders. Now, everything is backed up.
    I trust an external drive more than an internal backup. The problem may be somewhere there, either the drive or Ghost does not do a good job with hidden or system files. My program does a complete image of the haed, but it is excruciatingly slow (5 hrs., at least)

    Ray,

    I don't know whether or not you're still having problems with GoogleMaps, and MapQuest, but in the event you are, I ran across something that may be of help: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Images_or_animations_do_not_load#Images_do_not_load
    Let us know if this helps...

    Well, Yes tis the same but, I just been using Firefox when I have need of a map which is not very often.

    However, I always fix things if fixable. Now the BAD NEWS is that as you suggested, I went to Edit - Preference - Advance and I don't find a place that says "Change Images" so apparently I didn't go to the right place or there is something I misunderstood.

    My screen looks like this: http://www.raysmyth.net/test when I go to Edit - Preference - Advance

    Now the GOOD NEWS is that I put about:config in the URL address box and found the dom.disable_image_src_set to "true" so I selected "reset" and it went to "false" and that cured the problem and I can now get the map images in both Google and Map Quest.

    So, problem solved except I would like to understand what I'm missing in this Advanced "Change Images" thing.

    AND thank you for getting me into this "about:config" side of the house. In all my time with browsers this was my very first time to ever use about:config. I had heard mention of it but, have just never had a need or at least don't thnk I ever had a need to use it.

    So, thanks - All is fixed and I learned something new when I thought I knew everything --- HeeHee !!

    DUH!!! :eek: Should be: Edit | Preferences | Advanced | Scripts & Plugins
    I only left off the important part! :rolleyes:

    Yes, about:config is the way to go, plus much safer than editing the prefs.js file.
