Is there a way to turnoff "ctfmon.exe" I found this to be my probles by using selective startup.
The problem is loss of focus on my browser and screensaver not starting.

    I checked here:
    1. Quit all Office programs.
    2. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel. NOTE: In Windows XP, click Start and then click Control Panel.

    3. In Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove Programs.NOTE: In Windows XP, click Add or Remove Programs.

    4. In the Currently installed programs list, click to select Microsoft Office XP product, where Office XP product is the name of the specific Office product being used. If you are using a standalone version of one of the Office programs, click to select the appropriate product in the list. Click Change.
The only XP Office program I have is Power Point Viewer, when I go to "add remove programs" the only option I have is to delete, there isn't a change option
    5. In the Maintenance Mode Options dialog box, select Add or Remove Features, and then click Next. This displays the Choose installation options for all Office applications and tools dialog box.
    6. Click the plus sign (+) next to Office Shared Features to expand it.
    7. Click the icon next to Alternative User Input, and then select Not Available.
    8. Click Update.

Also I went to start/control panel/regional and language options/clicked language tab/detail/advanced tab/turn off advanced text services

    but CFTMON keeps coming back.

    Hi jvpele,

I recently did this myself. While I used the same microsoft reference I did not uninstall this with my office cd. I was feeling a bit lazy and thought I'd give step two a shot without going to the bother of digging through my software for the cd.

    This is what I did.

I did end task on cftmon.exe via a cntrl/alt/del taskmanager. I know ms tech file said don't do this but since I have previously done this a gazillion times throughout the years, without any ill effect, I didn't see any harm.

Then I went to the control panel>regional and languages options icon>clicked on the languages tab>clicked on the details button>on the settings tab, I made sure nothing but English and us keyboard was the only setting>clicked on the advanced tab and checked "Turn off advanced text services" apply and okayed to exit.

Then used the taskbar>startbutton> to run the regsvr32 line to unregister the dll drivers as instucted:
    Step 3: Run Regsvr32 /U on the Msimtf.dll and Msctf.dll Files
    1. Click Startbutton and then click Run.
    2. In the Run dialog box, type the following command:
    Regsvr32.exe /u msimtf.dll
    3. Click OK.

    4. Click Startbutton and then click Run.
    2. In the Run dialog box, type the following command:
    Regsvr32.exe /u Msctf.dll
    3. Click OK.

I think I may have recieved cannot "find file burp from regsvr32" for one of these and had to include the whole path the the dll. You may have to do the same.

I then rebooted to make sure the file and dll's where dumped out of memory. I have not seen or heard from cftmon since....:)

    I second that thanks, goddez1.

All I did was the part changing the regional & language options.

I've been trying to get rid of that pesky thing for months.
