Please forgive me if this question has been asked before, honestly i'm just too impatient to sift through 170 pages of questions. Sorry.

Ok, so, my problem is this:
I recently got XP pro. I've been running on XP home for quite some time now, and i do -not- want to have to redo all my settings and lose files and profiles for things like mozilla, etc etc. So, naturally, i try to upgrade rather than do a clean install. It goes through all the standard stuff, then starts scanning in preparation for the upgrade. That's when it gives me two errors. One is fairly inconsequential, the other is where my problem lies.

Here's the error message it gives me:
Windows has detected that one or more protected core system files (kernel) on your computer have been modified. The Service Pack contains updated versions of those files, which work to provide a stable environment for your programs. Due to this modification, the Service Pack will not be installed. For more information, see Knowledge Base article Q327516

Okay, so i just go to the knowledge base and find the article, no problem, right? Well, the article doesnt exist. So, as you can see, i'm now asking for your help on what to do.

I had found another thread with a person asking the exact same question i am, the responses suggested that it may be because the XP pro disc might not recognize the most recent updates to XP home.
They also provided him with this link http://www.windows-help.net/WindowsXP/winxp-sp1-bootcd.html
But i think that's only useful for someone wanting a clean install.

Please help me if you can. This upgrade isnt life or death, i just want some of the features that it offers. (Remote desktop connection is what i want the most)

Thank you very much for your time and help.

Are you starting the upgrade with the XP-home GUI running or booting from the CD?

Do you have SP1 installed for XP-home? If so, is the XP-pro CD also at SP1? If not you may have to slipstream a CD with Pro and SP1 for it to play nice.
