    Cannot Network Vista with XP

I'm trying to connect my Vista computer with my XP Pro pc through my Linksys router. I can see and open file on my Vista from the XP computer. But the XP computer cannot see the Vista pc. I have gone thorough all the tutorials and set my sharing options on the Vista but still the XP pc does not show networked for file/printer sharing.

I found this information http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...1D-EE46-481E-BA11-37F485FA34EA&displaylang=en through google, is this something that I have to install on the XP pc in order for it to see the Vista shared files/printers?

I renamed my Vista to MSHome to match the workgroup of the XP machine but that did not help.

When I check to see what folders/printers I am sharing it shows them on my Vista machine but they are not accessible from the XP pc. What do I need to do to connect the host machine (Vista) to the wireless XP Pro Pc. I've looked at Lynksis for udated drivers but there are not for my router which is a WRT54GL, I did not install the linksys software on my Vista pc, is this the problem?

Any help appreciated, also I have another post under Internet Explorer redirecting pages to a search page because it can't find the ad that is being blocked by the hosts file, so if you can commint on that would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    whompuscat,

I've split your post out from the thread where you originally posted it as this is a new problem and deserves a thread of its own.

I very much doubt that this is a problem with your router. Much more likely to be either a XP or Vista configuration issue.

Which version of Vista are you running?

Can you get to the XP PC if you enter the name of the computer in the Vista search box? You need to enter them in the form of:

    \\computer_name

    \\ipaddress

where computer_name is the name of the XP PC, and ipaddress is the IP address of the XP PC. Both of these can be obtained by entering ipconfig /all at the command prompt on the XP pc.

I have no problem seeing the XP pc on my Vista pc. However, i cannot see the Vista pc on the XP pc. I have run the home set up wizard several times on XP and made all the adjustments in Vista to share a home network.

The link I mentioned below is from microsoft and implies that in order for the XP to see the Vista it needs this Topography patch, not sure what that is and I haven't tried it yet.

I am using a Linksys router if that makes a difference.

OK - what happens if you try the \\computer_name or \\ipaddress options from the XP system. That is replacing computer_name with the name of the Vista system or ipaddress with the IP address of the vista system.
