Don't laugh, I've got an old computer that I use as a spare, it has an Asus M2N-e motherboard and an AMD Phenom X4 9850 Black Edition running at 2.5 GHZ with 8 GB DDR 2 6400. It only has SATA 2 connectors & USB 2.0 ports. The HD is a WD 1TB Black Edition SATA 3 7200 RPM.

I know it'll never be a speed demon but thought I'd install the Syba controller card to increase the transfer speed on the HD & gain the USB 3.0 ports, problem is the usb 3.0 ports work fine but the SATA ports don't, I've tried loading the drivers according to Syba's directions, looking in device manager they show to be installed but when I try to boot from it the computer hangs at the ASUS logo, if I try to get into the BIOS by hitting Delete nothing happens. I can put the SATA cables on the motherboard connector & it boots with no problem. Looking in device manager under under the IDE ATAPI controller it shows the Asmedia 106x SATA controller which is supposed to be correct.

Okay, while I was writing this I got a new idea to try, I hooked up a spare HD I've got that has Windows 7 on it & tried to boot from it, same thing, no boot, then I hooked up the original HD (has Windows 10 on it) & hooked up the spare HD as a 2nd drive but booting from the WD with Windows 10 ( I was able to get into the BIOS & set the Windows 10 drive as the boot drive ), it not only booted up normally but it shows the spare drive also, I was able to explore it with no problems. Now I need to get the Windows 10 HD to boot from the Syba card, if anyone has any suggestions I'd appreciate it. I read the reviews on Amazon (where I bought it) & Newegg, everyone of them says they just plugged it in & it worked, me not so much.

Hopefully someone here has had similar problems & has an answer, I'm out of ideas at this point.

I had a quick read through your MB manual, but I don't see the option to "boot from an external device", which might be needed in this case. You would need to set that in the BIOS, so see if there card is recognized as a boot option in your BIOS.

Appreciate the quick response but I don't think that's the problem, I had a USB 2.0 flash drive plugged into one of the USB 2.0 ports on the motherboard and under the boot options it's listed as one of the boot options. I did notice that when I had the original Windows 10 HD set as the boot drive and the spare Windows 7 HD attached to the Syba controller SATA port it will boot normally but while it's booting I get a message that it's loading the drivers for the Syba card but then it stops and tells me to hit Enter to continue, I do that and it continues to boot into Windows 10 normally and I can see & read both the Windows 7 & Windows 10 drives using File Explorer, looks like it's not loading the drivers for the Syba card on a cold boot (even though it shows up in Device Manager as having the drivers installed). Also, as said in my original post, when I try to boot from the Syba card I get the logo screen but can't get into the BIOS, it's like it totally freezes up & I have to hit the reset button but it will lock up again until I hook it back up to the MB SATA ports. I do have one last thing I can try, I've got another blank formatted HD, I read one post that says you have to reload Windows when installing the Syba card but then I'd lose the digital signature it's activated with since Windows 10 was installed as an upgrade when Microsoft was offering it for free, I suppose it might ask for a driver for the Syba card but not sure how true this since it was posted by someone who gave the card a bad rating on either Amazon or Newegg, don't remember which one it was, or how knowledgeable they were plus I'd have to reinstall every program that's on it now, they're all registered so it might balk at reinstalling the same serial number again so I'm saving that as a last ditch effort. I haven't had a drink in probably 15 years, but if this keeps up I may take up serious sport drinking!!

Manual for Syba card has this note:

Notes: Card is bootable but it requires a re-install of the OS/repair of OS; does not need floppy power feed for SATA ports to function.***

Might want to ask Syba about it and check their forum: 2 Port USB 3.0 and 2 Port SATA III PCI Express 2.0 x4 Card

Hoo boy, that's the last thing I want to do, reinstall or repair the OS, funny that nobody mentioned that in the reviews on it. I guess I can use Acronis & clone it to the spare HD I've got sitting around & do the reinstall or repair on it, then if that works I can clone it back to the original HD since it's a 1 Tb drive (and newer) than the spare 500 Gb I've got. I'm wondering how true that actually is since it came out before Windows 10, everything I've read says Windows 10 will recognize it.

The Syba forum won't be any help, it's only got 1 question & 1 response, guess I'll ask some questions on Amazon where I got it. Appreciate the input though, I'll let people know how this turns out, I'm not the only person who bought this, maybe someone else here has had the same problem

If you use the link I gave and click on questions towards the bottom this appears:

Worth a try to see if they respond.

Another thought – If you’re going to stay with your WD HDD and not use a SSD then doubt you’ll see a speed difference.
Even though the WD Black has a Sata 3 interface it’s actual read/write speed is around 150 MB/s
Throughput on Sata 2 is up to 300 MB/s.

Okay, after trying everything I could think of I finally used Acronis to clone the original HD to the spare I had so I wouldn't lose everything & did a clean install of Windows 10 on the spare HD, windows recognized the Syba with no problems (I was using the Syba card when I did the clean install to the spare HD). The instructions Syba gave were wrong, it said I had to install 2 drivers during the fresh install but Windows loaded the correct drivers for it before I applied all the updates for Windows. Kinda had me worried at first because it showed to be operating as a SATA 2 drive, but when I cloned it back to the newer HD it now shows it's SATA 3, didn't think about the spare HD I had was a SATA 2 drive. Everything is operating fine now, gained SATA 3 & 2 USB 3.0 ports. Amazon sent me an email asking me to review it, don't think they're gonna like what I say since none of the reviews mentioned the OS would have to be reinstalled (one person did mention this in the questions & answers section but I pretty much ignored it since it was the only mention of it, shame on me!!). I'm gonna mark this as solved and mad at Amazon & Syba. I've got a SSD I'm not using, guess where it's gonna wind up :)

Appreciate the people who responded to this.
