Problems following limited connectivity bug

Hi,

I run a home wi-fi network with 2 PCs and a laptop all running Win XP. Yesterday I tried adding another laptop to the network but I got the 'limited or no connectivity' error despite having a good signal.

After reading the sticky thread I manually entered the IP address and Subnet mask etc in the TCP/IP properties which got rid of the no connectivity problem and the status is now showing as connected.

However, I still get a no connection error whenever I try and access the internet and cannot view or access anything on the web itself. When I check the packet status it is simply sending packets but is not receiving any.

Can anyone help?

I've tried disabling all firewalls/security etc but this makes no difference, I still can't connect.

 

OK - lets start with the basics. Check that you have the right IP addresses. You can use this tool to check you've got your IP addressing right. Enter the IP address of the new PC as Computer 1, and one of your other computers as Computer 2. Also set the default gateway as the internal address of your wireless router (assuming this is your gateway to the internet).

If you get no errors there (or correct the issues highlighted by that test and still have no connection) the next thing to look at is your DNS settings. Do an IPCONFIG /ALL at the command prompt on one of the existing PC and check the address it is using for "DNS Servers ". Set the DNS on your new PC to point at the same address.
