I have noticed in XP Home that when I start IE6 and then close it that IE6 process does not stop and appears several times (however many times I have opened IE6) in the task manager. After several entries in the task manager processes IE6 will not work properly until I stop the IE6 processes that appear in task manager. Has anyone run across this problem and does anyone know of a fix? I have XP SP1 and IE

Disable any running programs which establish connections (for example, an AV, firewall, download manager) and disable thrid-party browser extensions (via Tools - Internet Options - Advanced). Open and close a few instances of IE and then see what's showing in the Task Manager. Post back with the results.

Would not hurt to do a sytem scan for trojans and malware using your favourite trojan scanner and spybot and/or adware.
