Help please. I've had Office 2003 on my computer since I bought it in 2005. I installed it to replace MSWorks (what a turkey!)

It has run faultlessly until yesterday. I now get a message on start-up that says "when Word shut down last time, an error occurred ". Whatefer I do, I can only get Word to run in Safe Mode.

I tried to repair it using the capability in "Add/Remove Programs ". After about 30 minutes screwing around it said it "Could not repair the problem ".

I tried a Windows Restore to when it was working fine, last Saturday, and on reboot, I got the same error messages.

Finally, I "removed" the entire Office 2003, using the Control panel Add/remove. I shut down, restarted and reinstalled Office 2003 from my original disk. I did pick up all the updates appropriate for a 6-year old program. When I re-started, the same messages appeared.

In "safe ", I can do most of the things I want to do, but I'd like to get away from the hassle when it first comes up. In particular, we do a newsletter fpor a group my wife is in which uses Clip Art. That doesn't play in "safe mode ".

    Any ideas would be appreciated.

Yes, Pete, I do mean "Word Safe Mode ". I read through the reference you gave, but unfortunately, I'm not getting any of the prompts or messages it mentions. There's nothing in the deactivated items list. It just goes back and forth between the "somthing's wrong since it last shut down" and "do you want to run safe mode ".

I guess I'll have to get a registry guru to try and figure out if something got messed up in there.
