I can only get to windows media player through - computer, then programme files. Then it only shows music. Media player doesn't show up when I click on all programmes. Tried installing version 11 again but computer says it has a newer version. No idea what to do now.

    Hi Rawdongirl,

You can't create a new shortcut for this? Just rightclick mediaplayer in the \program files directory. Should be an option to either create shortcut or send to desktop as short. Once that is done you can do a few things with it to put or copy this shortcut in the few places you want it.

thanks. I did put the shortcut onto my desktop but it only brought up music, not the full functions. I want to use it to get tv and record tv.

If you follow the link I gave to re-register the program you should find you get full functionality back. If you don't I will look for some other way to repair the program.

What version do you have installed.

    Hi rawdongirl.

No need to worry about the server links to the tool/utility markmadras has reccomended you use. The first server sorta' follows a small cookie crub trail but ends up here:
    http://www.thewindowsclub.com/repair-windows-media-player-with-fix-wmp-utility

See the glowing arrow? That is the download link.
The link up above is to the site page. Please have a look at the explanation and picture of what this tool offers. What a wonderful tool that covers many wmp problem, (all by re-registering files that involve wmp. Please do as markmadras has suggested. This cannot hurt a fussy wmp and may well fix the problem. It wouldn't hurt wmp even if it was working. No harm can be done relax.

The second mirror still leads to file "FixWMP.zip" but doesn't mess around and gets right to the file download. Either mirror will work both lead to same zipped file. First one just explains the tool use prior to download.

    ---------------
Just in case this is a "User" expectation problem or a case of being unfamiliar with media player options, perhaps this this little refresher course will help:
