    Hello,

I'm not sure if I even need Windows Defender, since I do have Emisoft Anti-Viru & Anti-Malware running all the time. But I just noticed that Windows Defender is turned OFF, which I did not do. And it has not been able to receive current updates.

I just need to know if it is necessary that I keep Windows Defender on and running. I am assuming that because it is turned off, that is why it is not able to update. I will also add I have not been receiving any messages from Windows Update informing me of this. I only found out because I realized I'd not noticed any Windows updates over the last few weeks, so I checked, and then is when I found out updated definitions for Windows Defender were not able to be successfully installed.

Another note, in the thread where you check your update history, there too, it does not mention a failure to install these updates.

Maybe, since the new upgrade they are no longer necessary, and Windows turned off Windows Defender, because I certainly did not.

Any suggestions or information on this?

    Thank you,
    Sandie

Windows Defender will turn off when you install another anti virus app.

    Hello Steve,

Thank you very much. For some reason, I never knew if it was running or not, but updated definitions were always installed before I upgraded to the last version of Windows 10. And I've been using Emisoft for a few years now. It was only lately that I noticed they were not being installed, and that only because I checked Windows Update out of curiosity, and saw a little note to that effect, but it was not highlighted or announced.

I will no longer worry about it then. Thank you.

    Sandie
