Problem with Umax Astra 2500 scanner

Hello,
I have Umax Astra 2500 scanner.
I am using Windows Xp Professional Operating System.
The scanner scans very dark .Tell me how to improve scanning or is there
problem with scanner How do you scanner is of no use anymore?

I have the drivers cd but it seems drivers are for windows 98
Please tell me where i can find drivers for windows xp.
Umax site does not allow me to download drivers and my warranty
period is over.

Hi,
i downloaded drivers and install it. But when i try to scan in color mode
the background appears in orange color? what does it mean? is my scan head
corrupt or scanner has some problem? Help me I don't know what to do?

 

Obvious question but...

Is there any configurable settings in the scanner software (either driver or application) that allows you to change brightness/contrast?

 

If you have on a power strip take it off.
Plug directly into the outlet to see if that
helps.
