Problem with spyware unable to remove

Hello, I hope this hasn't been posted before and I am posting here for the first time.

I accidentally agreed to download a software addon that clearly turned out to be malicious. Ever since, I am getting a "boing" sound accompanied by the following text box popping up every single time I use Internet Explorer to navigate to a new webpage (obviously grammar is not important to the author of this software):

"system error!
your system is infected with dangerous virus!
Note: strongly recommended to install antispyware programme to clean your system and aviod total crash of your computer!
Click OK to download the antispyware(recommended) "

Of course I have not clicked OK to download the software, and frankly most of the time the dialog box only stays up for a fraction of a second.

In addition to this annoyance, I have also noticed that anytime I navigate to google.com and search for ANYTHING, the second entry in the search results is a red box with a graphic designed to look like a McAfee "X" and the text:

"Your computer was infected by dangerous virus! Some results was changed by **** advertising, your password and other private info no more in safe! You must to clean your system immediately to prevent it. Download the newest anti-virus software! "

Basically, it's obviously an attempt to lure me to either purchase or download harmful software, but the prompts themselves are a huge annoyance.

I downloaded hijackthis and below is the results of my most recent scan -- but I'm not sure what all this means since I'm pretty much a computer layman -- can anyone help with this? Much appreciated in advanced for your time spent helping me.

Scan again with HijackThis and place a check next to the following entry.

Close ALL other windows then click Fix checked. Close HijackThis.


Then download Deckard's System Scanner (dss.exe) and save it to your desktop.

• Close all applications and windows.
• Double click on dss.exe to run it and follow the prompts.
• When the scan is complete, two text files will open; main.txt, which will be maximized and extra.txt, which will be minimized.

Post the contents of main.txt only for now.
