Just fitted a new multi-format drive to my Packard Bell 2001 build, Windows XP, SP2 computer. I uninstalled my old DVD ROM Drive and then fitted my new LG GSA H42N multi format drive. Computer detected new drive and installed the same drivers that drove my old DVD ROM drive(2001). This relates to my other thread in hardware, IDE or EIDE/ATAPI? The first thing that went wrong was the new drive "I" was being called a mixture of old drive HL-DT-ST and new drive, so it is HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-H42N. I left my nero in and it found new drive o.k(NERO 5.5). The new drive played everything fine, but, this is the software bit, on trying to add more jpegs to my picture CD/RW it lost all my folders, bar one. It done this by, doing a refresh when NERO found the disc and taking the folders off it. Where have they gone. A temp. file has been made in my doc.s, but files are unreadable. Next I ununstalled all of NERO and freshly installed it. The copying seemed fine on blank discs. Suddenly nothing would work right on my system, loads of errors. I scanned with avast, spybot, adadware, AVG malware and ccleaner.Only thing it found in Spybot was a Vanbot ax. and issas exe. It could only remove the vanbot & said it would remove other on start up. Another scan on start up revealed nothing. I thought I would try the new drive again, put my letters CD/RW in and it done refresh again when disc started, what is this? It said 1 file added without doing anything? Next added my new letters by drag & drop & clicked on burn. It not only didn't add my 6 new letters onto the disc ,it lost half of my old letters. Where are they? It said file verification unsuccessful. Why is it doing this. Nero seems corrupt. Are there any way of getting my pics and letters back? Is this a software & hardware problem or malware/virus. My whole system seems effected. Please help.

    re:problems with new drive

I forgot to mention, I left my other drive, " H ", connected still, as a slave. It is a CD/RW drive. According to device manager both drives are enabled and woking o.k., but you cannot play discs on this drive now, since adding my new drive. message comes up H drive inaccessible. I have also noticed that DVD's record on my new drive o.k. , it is only the CD's that lose files. I am using NERO Express, 5.5. In the drop down box I have Image recorder(DVD) and Image recorder(CD/RW), these are virtual drives? Also, I: HL-DT-ST-DVDRAM-GSA-H42N (DVD) and I: HL-DT-ST-DVDRAM-GSA-H42N (CD/RW) and lastly H: CD/RW Drive.
I am selecting H42N(DVD) to record DVD's and H42N(CD/RW) to record CD's. Is this the correct way to do it?
