I have installed netscape 7.01 several times with the same problem each time: the profile manager box opens in a space about 1 inch long and a half inch high so that I can't add/delete/access different profiles. I have tried dragging the edges to enlarge it with no success and there are no minimize/maximize signs available. Any help will be appreciated.

    Welcome to the Forum, kelliser!

    Hi kelliser,

Are you trying to access Profile Manager with Netscape open? If so close Netscape first, then access.

    With Netscape closed:

Check the file attributes in the registry.dat file Properties to see if it is "Read Only ". If so disable the "Read Only ".

Delete the XUL.mfl file, Netscape will rebuild the file when opened

Let us know if any of the above helps.

    Thanks for your suggestions.
I have tried accessing profile manager with netscape closed as I have in the past with 4.7.
I checked the attributes and read only is not checked.
I deleted the file you recommended but still have the same problem: the profile manager dialogue box opens as a 1" by 1/2" box which can't be enlarged. Right clicking on it brings up only options to move or close. There is not maximize button and I can't "grab" the edges to stretch it.
The browser itself opens fine and seems to work ok but I need to be able to change profiles.

    kelliser,

Create a Desktop shortcut for each of your Profiles:

Right click on the shortcut and select Properties
In the Target line add the following:
    -P profilename

Leave one space between the end of the target line, and the command switch. It should like something like this:
    "C:\Program Files\Netscape\Netscape\Netscp.exe" -P profilename

Do this for each Profile, until we can figure out how to get your Profile Manager window operating properly.

Thanks, but I think I'll just stay with my current version and hope you can figure out why I can't get an appropriate profile manager box to come up.

    kelliser,

Creating Desktop Icons won't have any effect on your Version of Netscape. This will allow you to access all your Profiles without having to use the Profile Manager. Actually, this is the Netscape recommended approach, if you choose to bypass the Profile Manager.

You stated that you needed to be able to change Profiles. This step will allow you to do so.

What I meant was, my current version 4.7 works fine including profile manager so there's no urgency to upgrade.

But I DO have a curious mind and time to play so I tried your workaround with two additional names. In each case netscape 7 opens up with my profile not the others!!!

    kelliser,

O.K., indulge me here, so I am perfectly clear:

    You have three Profiles.

You created two desktop icons, using the Profile names for two additional Profiles, but not for your main Profile?

The two icons you created with the Profile Name switch, (-P profilename) opens the main Profile?

Is this what you're telling me?

My apologies. I re-checked what I did and found a typo in the command line. Fixed it and now I can open other profiles. I'm currently working on my mail settings and importing the address books.
