    Hi all,
I have a strange problem with my IE 7.
I was always blaming my netgear router, but I think it is IE7.

When I click on IE it opens, but it just sits there and the indicator on the bottom is moving very slowly but never gets to the end and never loads the web page. Last time this happened I tried my laptop and got right where I wanted to go while my desktop is still sitting there and trying to get there. I close and reopen IE on my desktop several times and it finally gets there. Both laptop and desktop are connected with wire to the router. Also, my sons in a different room, using wireless, can log on with no problem. I have tried to move the connection from port 1 to 2 and so on, but it is the same.
Any idea what might be the problem and how to correct it?

    Thanks
    Sven

    P.S.
I should mention that outlook express has no problem logging in and getting my mail while IE is still trying.

Hi SVEN. Try running WinSock Fix. Also delete all your temporary internet files.

If those options fail to resolve the problem have you tried starting internet explorer in no-addon mode? (Start< All Programs< Accessories< System Tools< Internet Explorer no addons) Does IE start up ok now?

If that fails as well then open IE and click Tools, Internet Options< Advnaced tab< Reset button.

Let me know if you can connect to a website after performing the above steps. :)

Just tried to log on again and it would not do it.
I can log on without problems using the no ad on browser.
    I will keep on testing

There is your answer :) Disable all add-ons through Tools > Manage Add-ons and re-enable them one by one, testing at each stage until the culprit is found.

I have disabled all none MS add-ons and will keep on testing.
    Also Java is still on.
I did not know where to look for the add-ons to disable them till I read your post.
    Thanks again

Keep us posted. More than likely its probably a third party add-on that causing the problem. Do you have any internet explorer toolbars installed?

Well, I hade turned off all non MS add-ons and re-enabled them 1by1 and I can still log on without any problems. So, I don’t know what happened, all is working fine.
    Any ideas?

This is slightly wierd, but at least the problem appears to be resolved :) Maybe there was a conflict and you renenabled them in a different order to that in which they were originally installed which resolved the conflict. Honest answer - no idea :)

It is very puzzling. As long as the issue is resolved then thats what matters. :)

Well, it did not last long.
It is less frequent and sometimes I have to start IE twice to get it going.
It is better then before, but still annoying.
I guess I start over with the add-ons.
    Any other ideas?

Did you try the Reset of IE as suggested by Evan?

    Hi PeteC,
No, never got that far because I disabled the add-ons and got results. I guess that will be my next step. I am not home at this time. I will try over the coming weekend.
    Thanks again.

It's quite common to have to use the Reset button with IE7 actually. It disables add-ins, but also resets all the other factory defaults and deletes temp files.

I also wouldn't be surprised if either a) you have malware or b) your antivirus program is causing issues. I've seen Panda do this with it's LSP (Layered Service Provider). I've also seen Norton and McAfee do the same. LSP Fix may reveal some answers.

In a case like this, I would probably try Dial-a-fix.

    semegan Welcome to WindowsBBS :)

Now you need to find which add-on is causing the problem .....

Although we don't know exactly the nature of your problem follow this if you can ....

Start IE > Tools > Manage Add-ons and disable them all. Re-enable each add-on in turn, testing between each, until the culprit is found.

Well, I hit the reset button and restarted IE and it takes me to a MS website to click on “Save my settings”, and then went to several web pages that I usually visit and had no problem at all. Several sites asked to enable some add on and I enabled a few and still surfing. I will enable more next time I boot up again.
    Again, thanks for your help
    Sven
