All of a sudden I've lost my Local Area Connection in Network Connections.
I'm not able to access internet anymore. I've tried to do a system restore, but I keep receiving a message that System Restore is not able to protect your pc. Reboot your computer and try once more.

McAfee didn't find any virus. Microsoft AntySpyware and Adaware SE professional were not able to track any spywares.
Is there any way left for me to overcome this problem? (Except of re-installing windows)
Any kind of advice/help is much apprechiated.

    More detail needed.

    - how do you connect to the inernet?

    - click on start => run, key in eventvwr.msc and OK to start your event log viewer. Check for recent errors & warnings that seem to pertain to the Local Area Connection issue, the SR failure, and any others that look likely.

When you find one, double-click it open, click on the icon below the up/down arrows (sends a text copy to the clipboard), and paste the event(s) here.

    Thanks for trying to help.
I connect with ADSL through a router. ( I tried to check the router settings, but typing the default gateway IP in the address bar of IE, brings up "Page not found "). I also tried ipconfig /renew in cmd, but received a strange error that a service is missing. Checking the services.msc, everything seemed to be just fine. I will include the exact error message too.

I'm sending this help request with my PC at work. I will follow your step by step instructions as soon as I get home this evening. Unfortunately I'm not able to connect to internet at home due to this problem. I will post the event(s) tomorrow morning as soon as I'm back here at my desk. ( It would be 18 hours from now)

    Million thanks.

    Good Morning

There were countless errors in eventvwr. Most of them DCOM and a few E100B.

Any kind of help in recovering this situation is much appreciated.

Have you tired uninstalling the network card in Device Manager and then rebooting and letting it rediscover and install?
