Hello, I have 2 PCs running XP Pro SP3 with wireless wifi connection. Chrome is my chosen browser and has run OK on both machines for many months without problems. This morning, opening Chrome on my main PC stalled the programme with the message " Error 102 server refused connection ". Booting up my second PC and Chrome runs as normal.
Tested both PCs with IE and both run OK.
I have tried Uninstalling Chrome and re-installing a number of times with the same result.
I requested assistance from another help site and, as suggested, tried their suggestion:

Click the wrench icon tools menu menu.
    Select Options.
Click the Under the Hood tab.
Click Change proxy settings. This opens the Internet Properties dialog.
    Click LAN Settings.
Make sure that the "Automatically detect settings" checkbox is selected.
Click OK for all dialog boxes.

I have done the following: I have run latest MalwareBytes, Uninstalled and fresh installed A new Chrome. I followed the instructions including placing a tick in box for "Automatically detect settings ", leaving remaining boxes unchecked and closed the dialog boxes. I found that I still had the problem so I went through all again with same lack of response.
As they are unable to suggest any further actions, I wonder can anyone at Windows bbs can help.

Try unselecting this option. Close and Reopen browser.

    Problem with Google Chrome

    Hello Steve,
    Thank you for your response.
Just to make sure I've got it right- In LAN settings, "Automatically detect was" checked. I unchecked it, closed Chrome and re-opened and the problem persists. I ran through this sequence a number of times.
When the browser opens and I type in URL, the modem activity light flickers but no activity on screen except, after a time, shows Error 102, try reloading page.
I am having no problem using Firefox (which I am using to connect now) but would prefer to get back to Chrome if at all possible

In Internet Options > Connections tab > LAN settings > all items should be unchecked.

Verify that the URL of the start page in Chrome is a correct URL and try loading a Bookmark.

All items in LAN settings tab are unchecked . The home page www.google.co.uk seems to be OK on other PC and other browsers but this is the message which I keep getting:-

The server at www.google.co.uk can't be found because the DNS look-up failed. DNS is the network service that translates a website's name to its Internet address. This error is most often caused by having no connection to the Internet or a misconfigured network. It can also be caused by an unresponsive DNS server or a firewall preventing Google Chrome from accessing the network.
    Here are some suggestions:
    Reload this web page later.
Check your Internet connection. Reboot any routers, modems or other network devices that you may be using.
Check your DNS settings. Contact your network administrator if you're not sure what this means.
Try disabling network prediction by following these steps: Go to Spanner menu > Options > Under the Bonnet and deselect "Predict network actions to improve page load performance." If this does not resolve the issue, we recommend selecting this option again for improved performance.
Add Google Chrome as a permitted programme in your firewall or antivirus software's settings. If it is already a permitted programme, try deleting it from the list of permitted programmes and adding it again.
If you use a proxy server, check your proxy settings or contact your network administrator to make sure that the proxy server is working. If you don't believe you should be using a proxy server, adjust your proxy settings: Go to the spanner menu > Options > Under the Bonnet > Change proxy settings... > LAN Settings and deselect the "Use a proxy server for your LAN" checkbox.
Error 105 (net::ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED): Unable to resolve the server's DNS address.

    regards

In Chrome > Options > Under the hood > Privacy, the only thing I ever checkmark is Enable Phishing and malware protection. I never use Web service, predictions, send usage stats.

    problem with Google Chrome

The problem still has not been fixed.BUT I have worked around it by loading open source Chromium Browser which is, if anything, faster than Chrome so I'll stick with it.
If anyone can suggest the reasons Chrome doesn't work even after a system restore, I would be interested

    Thanks for all your suggestions
    regards
