I have a 3 year old Gateway computer, I am on broadband.

My problem is while using my computer it begins to "bog down" sometimes it will freeze for a few seconds and then "let go" for a few seconds. It will do this over and over until I reboot.

When it starts this, I shut it completely down and it wil be fine for a half hour or so of use, and then it will start to do this again. Any advice?:(

Did you ever find and run schredder ?
and if so was it the latest version,, probaly not becouse this one is new

    http://www.zerosrealm.com/downloads/CWShredder.zip << ---1.50.
Or here http://radiosplace.com/ in exe form
reboot then Post a hijackthis log

    Get it here http://radiosplace.com/
    choose save, NOT OPEN
save it to a PERMANANT folder, double-click HijackThis.exe,
and hit "Scan ". When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button. Press that, save the log, load it in Notepad, and copy its contents here.
Most of what it lists will be harmless, even essential,DON'T fix anything yet please. Also If you've used it before please dont have anything excluded

You have 2 viruses starting up.

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SearchEnhancement] "C:\PROGRAM FILES\SCBAR\V1\SCBAR.EXE" /U
    That is a search hijacker.

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [OEMRUNONCE] c:\windows\options\cabs\oemrun.exe

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TaskMonitor] C:\WINDOWS\taskmon.exe
You do not need the above starting up.

Remove the above, especially the hotbar.

You might want to give the Housecall and Trojan scans listed below a go.
You should get the Spybot, update it and then do the scan. Spyhunter has not done you any good.
I noticed among all the stuff you have to protect you, you do not have a firewall.

I would like to throw $.02 in here. I see you have both Norton and AVG antivirus installed. Generally, AV's don't play well together, and one should be removed. I will say that I personally lean towards keeping the AVG, but your choice. :) If neither one detected the viri markp62 pointed out, they should probably both be uninstalled, 1 reinstalled and updated.

I agree with noahdfear about having Norton and AVG installed at the same time. They are obviously interferring with each other.
I didn't notice them, must have been because the presence of them didn't ring any alarms. Can't see the forest because of the trees thing.
Just disabling one and running the other will not work, as there are files loading up for each before the executables are starting up.

Do a search (include hidden) of the drive for everything named Norton, NAV and Symantec and delete. Get RegSeeker and search registry for same and delete. Then run the clean registry feature till it comes up clean. Make sure backup feature is enabled.

    For Norton removal,
    symclean.exe
is probably your best bet. The same page gives instructions for manual removal.

For now lets get back to norton and the addremove problem later
hum control panel problems also,, please explain what happens and when ? if any errors write the whole thing down

what problems are you having with disk serve ?

try this end proccess on diskserve
    Open Windows Task Manager.
    On Windows 95/98/ME systems, press
    CTRL+ALT+DELETE
In the list of running programs*, locate the malware file or files detected earlier.
Select one of the detected files, then press either the End Task or the End Process button, depending on the version of Windows on your system.
To check if the malware process has been terminated, close Task Manager, and then open it again.
    Close Task Manager.
*NOTE: On systems running Windows 95/98/ME, Task Manager may not show certain processes. You may use a third party process viewer to terminate the malware process. Otherwise, continue with the next procedure, noting additional instructions.

Once thats done fix these once again and reboot
(with all IE's closed and any programs that show in the taskbar closed also)
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,SearchAssistant = ,
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Disk Master] C:\windows\diskserv.exe

after rebooting scan again if everything remains gone theres no need to post another log,(check by using hijackthis)

You are aware you will need to disable system restore ,re-enable after a restart and not use go back again ,

    I will try that Lonny..

when I try to open up something in my control panel it gives me this message..

It says windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access them.

My system restore is disabled and it wont open either
