Just got a new Windows 10 desktop for wifey.
So far so good, except that it asked for an outlook.com account to start. I knew she didn't have one, so I just used mine. Now, the location of the desktop is this: C:\Users\paulr\OneDrive\Desktop

This is strange, as my wife has her own user account, and it is not "paulr." I have since disabled OneDrive from starting up, but paulr is no longer listed in the list of users (only my wife's user account). I was surprised that the location of the desktop didn't change.

Regardless, I can see if I open up the Desktop context menu, and then select the Properties window, and the Location tab. there is supposedly a way to change the location of the desktop. But when I click on the button that says Move, and then navigate to my wife's user account desktop, after clicking out, the location hasn't changed.

Is there some other way to change the location of the desktop?

Evan, believe it or not we already went through those steps. And now after seeing your link, when I went to the Your Info tab, the link on the right did not say "Sign in with a local account intead," but "Sign in with a Microsoft account instead." And above that, below the User name and the picture, it says Local Account.

Users.PNG This is strange. I uninstalled Onedrive, and rebooted. Still, the location of the desktop is unchanged.

Now I went into the C/Windows directory, and found this--again, strange, because my wife's username/account is not listed. When Windows boots up, I see her username on teh screen, before it takes us to the desktop (until I'm done tinkering, I have her account set to not require a login after rebooting, it goes straight to desktop).

I have no idea why her user account is not listed, even though her username appears after rebooting, right before going to the desktop.

I can only imagine the root problem is here, and not with onedrive. The screenshot lists all the user accounts when I go into the Windows/User folder. My wife's account is not even shown.

Its possible the user profile got corrupted. Have you tried creating a new user account for your wife and see if it works properly? There should be one user account for you and one for your wife in the user's folder. Since you are not seeing this in the screenshot I would create a new user account and migrate the data from the corrupted account into the new account.

OK, that was it. I created a new user account for her, and the desktop location was in fact her new local user account desktop, and not onedrive.

Can I just delete the "paulri" account--I'm concerned that I can't see it when I look at the Accounts section of Windows settings, but when I go into Explorer, it is obviously there. I'd rather just delete it than have anyone do anything with it, or waste time trying to...

Sure if you don't use that account then you can remove it.

Well it wouldn't let me. It did not appear when I went into Windows 10 settings. In Explorer, it was in the Windows/Users directory. I tried deleting it there, and I got an error message saying it was in use with another program or something like that--and this is while I was logged in with my wife's account. Oh well. At least I was able to get the desktop location changed.

Thanks for all your help Evan.
