I have Windows ME and a 30 GB HD. There's about 27 gigs of free space to begin with. Right now, I have very few programs installed, and about 3.5 gigs of music/videos. However, I only have 4 GBs free space. I've searched my computer, but I can't fingure out what's hogging so much HD space. I only have basic progs installed, like Word, Excel, etc. Is there any way to find out what's taking so much memory up? THANKS!

Whats telling you that you only have 4 gigs free?

In the absence of a program like DiskPie which is being charged for now, you will have to do the following:

Bring up your C drive via "My Computer" and right click in an empty space and click on "properties ". You will get free and used space numbers in mega bytes and a pie chart representing those numbers.

Do the same with all your folders that are listed when you brought up the drive from "My Computer ". When you find folder(s) that are taking up more room than you expect, then go down through its sub-folders.

Before querying folders/files, do the following: click on tools at the top of the drive window - click Folder Options > view tab > tick "show hidden files and folders ". There are files that that are not in any folder as well.

    Regards - Charles

How large is your swap file??? In the control panel, go to system, then performance. I'd almost bet that you are letting ME manage the swap file and it will use every bit of space it can. You'll want to change this (generally, I use the amount of RAM + 128). Also delete your tmp, bak and log files.
