MS Office Home and Student 2007 came preinstalled on ACER PC for 90 day trial. I installed alternative word prosessor and spread sheet programs and designated them as default apps for .doc and .xsl file extensions respectively. However, when I try to open any WORD doc, MS Office Home and Student 2007 tries to reconfigure and open instead of the default WORD 97. Have migrated to Settings/control Panel/Programs and Features clicked on MS Office Home and Student 2007, then on "Uninstall" and nothing happens--says it is already uninstalled. Yet still wants to open .doc files. How to permanantly remove this unwanted MS OFFICE?? At wits end.

    palscalzo19 - Welcome to the Board :)

The uninstall clearly did not complete. As a first step - the simple solution :) - open Windows Explorer > Tools > Folder Options > File types and check/change if necessary the program associated with .doc, etc.

As I recall the document extension in Office 2007 changed to .docx.

I tried your suggested approach but still no luck removing MS Office Home and & Student 2007. Vista does not recognize MS WORD 97 or Swriter as default apps for .doc or .docx extensions. When I click on a WORD doc it automatically loads with MS OH & S 2007 w/ Setup error message concerning "Controller ". The only way to open in preferred word processor is to right click the select it (MS WORD 97 or Swriter) from "Open With" drop-down menu. I called PC mfg for help they said I need to return to store service dept (best buy) for removing the program. Seems extreme to me. Do you have any other ideas or software that can completely remove. Thank for your help.

I have not used it, but RevoUninstaller is often mentioned on the BBS as a capable piece of software.

Making MS WORD 97 default program

I was able to make MS WORD 97 default program by clicking on a WORDDOCS folder, rt clicking on a *.doc file, rt click on Open With, browsing for the MS WORD 97 folder, opening, then checking "Always open these files..... ". Works fine at least for now. (However, MS OFFICE & Student 2007 was not listed when I ran REVO Uninstaller 1.71 so I assume it was previously uninstalled. We shall see. Thanks for your help.

ADMIN: I do not know what your post means. ( "Please post your problem in the appropriate forum. This should not have been posted in the Introductions forum. ") Please explain as I want to use the forum correctly.
