I have Windows Fax correctly installed under Windows XP SP3 with an Aztech SoftK56 Data Fax PCI Modem (Manufacturer CXT). The modem will receive incoming faxes but is not sending. The Fax Console states that there is 'No Answer' for fax numbers which have been correctly entered and which I have rung first just to check whether they are indeed Fax Numbers and whether they are working. This has been tried without Dialling Rules and with Dialling Rules and is still a problem.

The fax numbers which I have been attempting to send to are of the format:-

    1. 020-7833-nnnn 2. 020-07380-nnnnnn 3. 01324-nnnnnn

N.B. There has been one attempt when Fax Console has given the Status 'Line Busy'. That too was spurious I believe.

Device Manager says that the Fax Modem is functioning correctly. I entirely concur with this.

The Fax Modem is receiving incoming messages which would suggest that the Modem is compatible with Windows Fax under Windows XP SP3 and that I should also be able to send messages using Windows Fax.

Problems with sending faxes using Windows Fax from Windows XP seems to have been a problem for a number of people. However, there is no published statement of a solution that I can find.

Has the Windows BBS XP Community any suggestions?

I have tried Windows Fax a few times and have had similar experience. I use the modem card manufacturer's software. It will be on the disk that came with the modem.

Unfortunately I do not have a disk for the Modem.....

Thankyou for your response. Unfortunately, I do not have a software disk for the modem. The modem is an internal one which I believe came pre-installed in the machine when first purchased. It is an HP Pavilion 9715. I do not believe that a software disk was provided.

Thankyou again for your helpful and sensible suggestion.

Do you have any installation disks from HP? The manufacturer often puts software re-installation files on the hard drive, so read the HP information. The program is not already installed?? You can download the user guides/manuals from the HP website, which should tell you how it is set up.

Check in Device Manager that there are no errors on devices.

Alternative option, get another one. :) $7.99 for this one, and it gets 4 out of 5 "stars" (eggs), but read through the user reviews.

Dial up modems are not very expensive nowadays.

PS If you do get another one, it would probably be best to uninstall any software or drivers for the old one before you install the new one (and remove the old card, of course).
