My old Windows 7 PC went out on me so with a new PC being bought, I had no choice but Windows 8 which I am beginning to dislike very much. More than likely because it seems all new to me.

With Windows 7, I could easily save an attachment by clicking on it and then do a save as, select my folder and done. With Windows 8, I click on the attachment and only get "save ". When I do this it goes into the download file. I then have to open the download file and click save as. Then I get choices on the upper left of the screen. Sure seems like a round about way of saving attachments. Isn't there an easy way to save attachments like Windows 7 was?

Windows has nothing to do with Gmail... I'm on Win 7 and only have the option to download.

Yes, I realize that but Windows does have a lot to do with how attachments are saved. With Windows 7 I got the choice of "save as" where now the only choice is to download to a download file.

About three days ago. Just do not like Win 8. Have half the notion to go on eBay and look for Win 7 cheap.

This HP notebook OS W8.1 with Thunderbird as email client and Gmail as server. Right click on attachments in email and I have 4 options: Open - Save as - Detach - Delete.
Save as, I can choose which Library to use. I'm happy with W8.1 and prefer moving forward rather than backward.
I also like W10 Preview which I have on a separate HDD on my main comp. Neil.

Well that worked with photos but not for documents. I guess I'll have to live with it. Thanks just the same. Yes, you are correct about moving forward. I'll continue using Win 8 and start reading or looking for tutorials.

What most of us have found with W8.1 is the need for a Start Menu. There are a number of Free programs like Classic Shell which enables you to set a Start Menu like W7 and because you are familiar with that - you can learn your way round W8.1 without problems. Give it a go.
If you Google for W8.1 Start programs - you'll find both free and pay for software. I use Start8 which costs $4.95 and my wife who migrated from XP directly to a new comp I built her with W8.1 loves the OS and gets around with Start8 no hassle. Neil.

    Thanks Neil,

I will write that down. For 4.95 it would be worth it, at least until you feel comfy with W8.1.

    I too use and recommend Start8 ($4.99).

Note the save as feature is more likely an issue with your browser. When I select Download, I then get a bar at the bottom where I can click on Save, or click the down arrow next to Save and select Save as.

Thanks Bill, the only selection I get is save and then it is directed to the download file where I have to retrieve it. It's not a simple procedure for sure. I run a small business from my home so I am doing this quite often.

Well I solved the problem. On Mozilla Firefox click on tools and then select "always ask me where I want to save files ". Now I have to figure out how to mark this thread as solved.
