I just did a search and didn't find a similar topic. (Searched for attachment and compact).

Anyhow, I have an Outlook pst file that is over 1GB. When I delete messages and attachments, the outlook.pst file size doesn't go down. This happens even though I've deleted over 20mb of attachments. After deleting, I emptied deleted folder, and I compacted folder. Still, no change in file size, though the messages are gone.

    Any ideas?

Also, is there any plugin for Outlook that allows you to view attachments as files (instead of in messages), and lets you delete them?

I've gotten to a point where I am so annoyed with Outlook that I tried installing Eudora 5.2, but Eudora won't import from Outlook correctly. I get imported messages that are completely garbled.

    Help please.

    TIA

    btw, using:
    Windows XP SP1
    Outlook 2002 SP3 (9.0.0.6627)

From the "file" view, right click Outlook today->properties->advanced->compact

I've tried that... many times. No difference.

I also just tried the scanpst.exe (inbox repair tool), no diff either.

So does the Compact feature work for everyone else but me?
Can someone try checking the size of their PST, then delete 5MB+ worth of attachments, then compact, and let me know what their size is?

Mine is exactly the same, which leads me to ask, what good is Compacting, and more importantly, HOW do I reduce the size of my .pst file without archiving.

    Eudora, Outlook

Hi Orion: I think you should repair Outlook, via the add/remove programs, option. If Eudora won't import your messages, which it certainly would, then I think your Outlook is corrupted. Especailly since it won't clear, compact, correctly for you!
It would seem to me, that OE6 is a version to stay away from! Have read many problems with it! George.
