Does anyone know if its okay to run your computer when your power supply is clicking/grinding? I think it's a ball-berring or something like that on the fan, but it's very loud (wish I could either fix it or muffle the sound). It's a 2yr old Antec 400W, I emailed their tech support but got no reply.

LOL. Does anyone know if its okay to run your car when your engine is clicking/grinding? Common sense would tell you to replace it.

Inspect the fan in case something is touching the fins. The "grindinding" does seem like the fan is failing.

The fan should be able to be changed without buying a new PSU.

My friend's CPU heatsink fan failed. I decided to ask a local computer repairer if it could be replaced. The answer was that a new CPU, heatsink and fan would be needed. ?? I went to another repairer, he picked up a fan from his workbench and sold it to me for a few dollars. It is still working well now.

Check with the local repairers if you can. They may be able to replace the fan without much problem.

    Matt
