    Hi, Everyone.

I have a problem with my monitor, ViewSonic E50-2. The picture is tilted and
there is no way to control it on the monitor. I go to the ViewSonic's Online
support, but they only say: "....adjust the image's lower edge
aligned to the bezel. Individually measure the height of the image's left
edge and right edge" which I don't understand the meaning.

I hope someone can help me explain it and most importantly: how to do it.
    Please help me!

    TIA.

    Yasmin

    Hello,

What I believe they mean is for you to measure the distance from the bottom of the glass to the bottom of the actual picture on your screen. Try using a bright or white background picture on your desktop so it's easier to see the actual viewing area.

According to viewsonic.com (http://www.viewsonic.com/support/crt_e50.htm) you have quite a few more controls than may be immediately obvious on your monitor. Take a look again and see if the parallelogram or pin balance or a combination of various settings can help. If this is already a mess, try re-setting the monitor to it's default settings, preferably the manufacturer's settings and go from there.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi, Alan.

Thanks for your explanation. Actually I already visited the site you given to me in your reply. And I already tried several settings. You're right, it's already a mess. The picture on the right side is lower than the left side. How to re-setting the monitor to it's default settings, preferably the manufacturer's settings? I tried to choose the Memory Recall. But it's worst than the settings I ever tries.

    Thanks for your kind support.

    Best regards,

    Yasmin

Without being able to get to the monitor, try unplugging it for awhile. Hopefully after 10 - 15 minutes it will reset to the original settings.

If it's a "real" problem with the monitor, if it's failing and in need of replacement check to see when you purchased it. The specs sheet states it has a 3 year warranty.

Let us know if anything works, or not!

    Alan,

I should unplugging the monitor while the power still 'on' and it's still connected to the cpu? And what do you meant by 'for a while'? Is it meant 10-15 minutes as in your next sentence? I.e.,
'Hopefully after 10 - 15 minutes it will reset to the original settings. ' Sorry if I asked you stupid or silly questions. I'm a newbie and a thorough instruction is better to me.

    Thanks, Alan!

    Cheers,

    Yasmin

Hi Firda, welcome to the board.

I' sure it doesn't matter whether the monitor is on or off, the idea being that it may have a risidual memory that maintains settings as long as the monitor is plugged in, as it is still drawing some power even if it is turned off. Personally, I would turn the monitor off, unplug and leave it for a while, 15-20 minutes.

Most monitors have the ability to adjust their screens, and I had one of my kids mess with the settings, resulting in a picture that was really messed up. It was skewed on the sides and had a bunch of blank space top and bottom. I nearly went crazy trying to get it back to normal, using the little buttons on the front of the monitor, and could'nt.

I have three machines here and each ones adjustment settings function differently. But they have one thing in common, an Icon or symbol that has four arrows, one up, one down and one to each side. If an Icon on screen, select it and it should reset the monitor. If a symbol in the plastic front of the monitor, push the select button until the little light next to it is lit, it should reset.

I'd try get the monitor to reset that way first, then if that doesn't work, try the unplug replug routine.

Good luck and let us know the outcome.

    Hello, Martin.

Thanks for your explanation and guidance. I follow your suggestion. Unfortunately, there is no such button with icon or symbol of four arrows on the problem monitor. Also, there is no option for tilt the screen on the list of menu button. You are right, it make me crazy to get it back to normal.

I tried the suggestion to turn the monitor off, unplug and leave it for a while, 15-20 minutes. And then plug it and turn it on. But the problem still there: tilting screen. I measure the differences between the top right and left screen, also the bottom right and left of the screen. If the differences are less than 1/12 inch for top side positions and also for bottom side positions, then it's OK as suggested on the ViewSonic's web site. And, the differences are actually less than 1/12 inch (between 1 and 2 mm)!

    Once again, thank you!

    Cheers,

    Yasmin

Yasmin: View Sonic is telling you that tilted screen is ok as far as they are concerned?

If that's their position on their monitors, remind me to never buy a ViewSonic!!

    Cheers back at you.

    Hi, Martin.

Thanks for your support and concern. It's my interpretation (which could be wrong) when I said that it's normal if the tilted is less than 1/12 inch based on their Online Support, Viz.

    "Distortion

    Tilted Screen:

Use your tilt control adjustment, if available. If this feature is not available, then adjust the image's lower edge aligned to the bezel. Individually measure the height of the image's left edge and right edge. The difference of 1/12" or less would be considered within specification.

Turn the monitor to face different directions. The monitor is recommended to face East for optimum display.

Any non-square shape (trapezoid or parallelogram), pincushion, barrel, or image shifted:

Use the controls provided either on the front panel of the monitor or through your OnView Controls, if available.

Verify the problem at all resolutions. If the problem does not occur at all resolutions, then it is usually an indication of a video card problem.

Try a standard VGA driver in Windows to verify the consistency of the problem. If the problem does not occur with the Windows standard VGA driver, then there may be something wrong with the video card's configuration or the card may be defective.

If the distortion is not evident when tested on a different computer, the video card you are using may be defective. Please consult with your video card manufacturer for further assistance. "

Though I questioned some, I still follow all of their guidance before posting the message to this board with hope that this problem could be fixed. But, all efforts failed. I tried to get the OnView Controls by borrwing the driver CD from my friend who bought the new E50c-5. But this utility (?) is not available on the CD. Do you know about this OnView Controls? I try to find out from ViewSonic's site, but can not find it there.

    Thanks, Martin.

    Cheers,

    Yasmin

Well, now I've heard everything! Is this monitor made in China?, no, I guess if China, the "optimum display" would be face west, at least for the USA. Or, maybe it is Muslim. Don't they face East when called to prayer? Monitor subject to earth's magnetic field distortions?:D :D :D :D

I'm really sorry I can't be of more help, this has me baffeled as well.

Maybe there is a monitor tech on the board who can help. In the meantime, I'm going to try to set my browser to delete any websites that carry ViewSonic advertisements.

Cheers back to you and good luck.

    Yeah, Martin.

I also questioned their recommendation to turn the monitor's face to east. I ever discuss it with my friend. I think it's funny to change the direction of the monitor. The monitor is made in Thailand. But guess the Online Support is come from their Head Office's.

Other recommendation that questionable is to change the display card to the standard VGA driver. What for if we are using a specific display card with their driver installed?

Firstly, I think ViewSonic is one among the top quality monitor manufacturers in the world. But now, I have same opinion as you.

Anyway, thanks a lot for your kindness to share your precious time and knowledge in solving my problem. I really appreciate it.

And I think it's time to give up and sell the monitor and buy new one. Any suggestion to buy which monitor? Don't suggest ViewSonic, please!

    Cheers,

    Yasmin

Hey Yasmine: You know, the more I think about it, the more ludicrous it sounds. I guess if you turn the monitor to face east and the display improves, you could always sit at your desk sideways and just crane your neck around to see the display. I can just picture it. HE HE HE HE HE.

Or, if at home, build a new addition so that you could place the monitor properly. Or, if at work, talk to the boss about moving your workstation. I'm sure he/she would understand and immediately call building services to accomodate your monitors demands. gufaw, gufaw.

Gee, I dunno about reccomending a monitor Mfg. What if the new one you bought that I had reccomended wanted to face straight up ???? Then I'd be in a world of trouble, have to come over and hold you up to the ceiling!

Sorry, I just can't help myself, making myself hysterical.:) :D :)

I'm running a Gateway 15" TFT monitor. It has approximately the same screen size as a 17" CRT. I've had it two years and am very pleased with it. Especially it takes up almost 0 space on my desk.

    Problem is cost. $300.

I bought a Princeton 17" CRT for my daughter's machine $99. about a year ago, works fine no complaints except when first lighting up, when the video card information appears, it seems to shimmy. Other than that, I got my $99. worth. This is the one that the kids had the display all messed up. But easy recovery with on screen adjustment, the four arrow thingee I mentioned.

I bought a refurbished monitor for my Son's machine, also a couple of years ago, it still works fine, but the screen adjustments are by buttons on front, hard to figure, should have saved the manual.

Poke around with your seach engine on line and you should be able to find some deals. If you are looking to save some money go to the www.dell.com website and look around for refurbished monitors. Check out: www.tigerdirect.com, www.newegg.com, www.cyberguys.com

I guess your budget should help you decide, you might want to check out Wal-Mart and local stores like Office Depot and Brands Mart, where if you don't like it you can return it.

    Cheers

    Martin
