I'm trying to install Windows 7 Home Premium over Windows Vista Home Basic on my Compaq Presario. But before I can do that, the program insists that I install Vista's SP1. I can't do that, because when I get to the point where they tell me to read the contract about what I'm agreeing to (selling my soul to Microsoft, etc.), there's no place to check a box to "agree." What gives?

Hi Jim Devine, Welcome to Windowsbbs! :)

Try downloading Windows Vista Service Pack 1 from here.

If the same thing happens do you have your resolution set really low where you wouldn't be able to see the checkbox? If so try increasing the resolution and see if you can see the entire window.

Also please enter your System Details. It helps us in answering your questions.

Note: A common error is to forget to show your system details in your profile:

Make sure to do the above when entering your System Details, thanks.

Hmm. So you don't see any place to check the checkbox to accept the license agreement?

I have never seen this kind of situation happen before. Do you have any security programs that could be interfering with the installation of Service Pack 1? Have you tried shutting down all background programs that are running in your system tray in order to avoid any conflicts?

I decided to do a clean install of Win7 over Vista. It worked fine and was surprisingly painless. So the problem is resolved. Now where is the button for marking this as "resolved "? (I find the Windows BBS websites to be cluttered and thus confusing.)
