I have an 8 gig USB 2.0 MP3/MP4 player, which uses Samsung Flash memory. It is not supposed to need drivers with Win XP.

When I hook it up to my PC at home or work, it is recognized as new hardware, but will not fully installed. The message is "˜USB Device Not Recognized’. I have updated the Win drivers and still no luck. This is an "˜eBay deal’ and I have no idea who the manufacturer is.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Regards…JohnWB

Hello JohnWB and welcome to the Board :)

If you have tried it on more than one system, a possible reason for that message is the device is faulty.

The (flash memory) drive may need to be formatted. Can it be connected to a card reader?

You could look for a firmware update if you knew the manufacturer (and possibly by the model number). See if it is identified at all in Device Manager -> Universal Serial Host Controllers, but it may not be being identified correctly.

Are any drivers included for say, Win 98? You could try those on a Win 98 computer.

Even from the above, it would be reason to return it as "not working ".
