   I had all my contacts in outlook 2003. I made a backup copy and tried to open it in outlook xp. I keep getting a message saying "The messaging interface has returned an unknown error. If the problem persists restart outlook. I dont have outlook 2003 anymore. Is there anyway of opening these contacts up??

   I have no idea if you can open contacts from a newer Outlook version on an older version, but maybe this will help?
   
   "The messaging interface has returned an unknown error" error message in Outlook 2000 that is installed in Corporate or Workgroup mode
   
   

   Have a look at the KB article & try the solutions offered.
