I am unable to delete e-mails in my Inbox on Outlook Express 6. This happened very suddenly, no new software had been loaded.

Hi Curier, Welcome to BBS. Have you tried clicking on the email you want to delete and > Shift - Delete > yes? Neil.

ps. This removes it completely - you cannot retrieve it from the Recycle Bin.

One possible cause of your problem is corruption of one or more of the .dbx files .....

    Close Outlook Express

Search for *.dbx - include hidden files and folders

Delete Deleted Items.dbx - it will be recreated when OE is next opened

    Open OE and test.

If that does not resolve the problem try this .....

In OE creat a new folder - InboxOld and drag all mails in the Inbox to that folder.

Close OE and, as above delete Inbox.dbx - it will be recreated when OE is opened again.

Open OE and drag the mails from InboxOld back into Inbox and test. InboxOld can then be deleted in OE.

When you see the list of .dbx files make a note of the sizes - the size limit for a .dbx file is 2 Gb, but OE plays funny long before then and this is another possible cause of your issue.

To reduce the size of folders create a new folder from within OE and drag some mails into it.

E.g. If your Sent Items folder is > 500Mb, say make a new folder Sent Items 2 or whatever and drag mails from Sent Items into Sent Items 2 and so on.

Hi Curler, nice to see you're in business again. Let us know what solved it so others will know. Please mark as Resolved when finished. Neil.
