Hi, my problem is when i connect my HP 1215 (3 in one) printer via the usb port a BSOD comes up every time. On rare occasions it also happens when i plugin a flash drive, but very seldom. On another Pc, also running XP, there is no such problems..so, i have ruled out that the problem lies with the printer or the printers software.

What i have checked to date is • Uninstalled and reinstall the software/drivers • Tried different usb ports • Run a defrag, scandisk and virus scan and now i am out of ideas!

    Your help will be appreciated.

    My Pc specs:
    SYSTEM: AcerPower FH R01-CI

    PROCESSOR: • 1.80 gigahertz Intel Core Duo • 64 kilobyte primary memory cache • 1024 kilobyte secondary memory cache • 64 bit ready • Multi-core (2 total) • Not hyper-threaded

MAIN CIRCUIT BOARD: • Acer E946GZ • Bus Clock 200 megahertz • Bios Phoenix Technologies LTD R01-CI

    MEMORY MODULES: • Slot A0 has 2048 MB • Slot A4 has 1024 MB

    LOCAL DRIVE: • WDC WD1600AAJS-00L7A0 (160.04GB) 99.7GB free

POWER SUPPLY: • 700 WATT (Dany)

Verify that the Intel motherboard chipset drivers for usb are installed. You may only have the generic Windows usb drivers installed. Look in Device Manager > Universal Serial Bus Controllers section. It should say something like "Intel(R) X Series/XXX Chipset Family USB Enhanced Host Controller ".

Get the chipset drivers for XP here: (switch the menu to XP)
Download Drivers and Manuals | Acer Official Site

If already have the correct usb drivers then some are likely corrupted. Use Device Manager to uninstall all of them, then restart the computer and Windows will auto reinstall them using its backup of the good drivers.

Hi TonyT, thanks for your advice, but it seems that my problem lies elsewhere. I have download the Chipset drivers from that link, uninstall all the old usb drivers in Device Manager and installed the new drivers, restart the Pc....still no joy!

I had a look at the BSOD message and it say's "An attempt was made to execute non-executable memory" whatever that means? Anything else that i can try will be appreciated.

"An attempt was made to execute non-executable memory" means the driver is trying to load into RAM, as it should do. Windows sections off RAM into areas where drivers, programs and other files may load and be stored for use, and other sections of RAM where programs and drivers may be executed. The drivers are trying the run (execute) where they are not allowed to execute in RAM.

Were the original usb drivers the Intel drivers or generic drivers?

    " " -27C9
    " " -27CA
    " " -27CB
    " " USB2 Enhanced Host Controller - 27CC

Thank's for the help Tony, i am off to bed now, it's 2am where i am from (RSA)

Hi Tony, my problem is solved! I did a Windows XP Repair Installation, reinstall the service packs, download and install all the available security updates and everything is running smooth (for now!!)

    Thank's for your support.
