Problem booting up

I am having trouble booting up. When I turn my computer it does the usual, however when I usually sign in with my password, a blank page with the WindowsXP icon comes up and it just stays that way.

Any suggestions?

I have tried safe mode, however it takes me to the same blank page with windows icon.

To try it again, what F-key is it to start in safe mode again?

The F5 key.

Once you're in Safe Mode and the problem re occurs, there should be an option to use System Restore or dialog to the effect of going back to the last known good configuration, try that.

When booting up into Safe Mode, there should be an Administrator option as well as your own logon. See if that works.
