    I have a compaq ML350 with a RAID 5 SCSI array arranged into C and E partitions.

I have tried to add an IDE drive to use as a cheap storage option for non-critical data. (An extra 32Gb SCSI drive costs half a new server, but a 160Gb IDE is only a few quid)

When I fired up the machine, it would not boot because it was looking for C drive on IDE not SCSI.

I had a quick look around the BIOS but could not see anything obvious, although I didn't have time to study it properly as it is our main file and print server and our users need it up and running.

I looked at the Boot Order section, but that only lists C, Floppy or CD, no mention of SCSI

I have also had a look at the Compaq/HP website but cannot finde any information there.

    Can anyone shed any light?

    Thanks

    Hi Grunty,

Try partitioning the new drive with only an extended partition and logical disks (no primary partition). The scsi controller should then boot as before.

Thanks for the reply. I will have to do that out of hours, so the job will have to wait until the weekend.

I will post back when I have tried it out
