    Can anyone help?

    I had to reformat my HD and lost everything...after a reinstall of WIN98SE, I had a generic windows driver named vga.drv from the CD-ROM. The screen resolution was really poor and would not go beyond 600X800 or something.

    The video adapter I have is a SiS Integrated Video Adaptor running with a Graphics Integration 5597 Chipset. I found the updated driver and installed it...what a difference!

    Now the problem is that when I go anywhere from the desktop, there is a "flash" or "blink" for a nano-second where the windows background (clouds) reverses image (like a photo negative)...
    any ideas on how to resolve that issue?

    Trial and error!........I know this is not very specific but this is one of those problems that does not come from one specific root cause.....

    Areas to focus on:
    Just cause it's the latest version of the drivers for your display adapter may not mean they're the best for your system. You may need a different dated set.

    You may need to reinstall.

    You may need to tweak them down. Adjust preferences to iron out the refresh and /or the memory needed to run the drivers. Play with the preferences settings.

    Check directX files and functions. Some new "driver sets" [display] also require updated [specific minimums] versions of various things and directx is often included in this.

    Check for correct monitor settings. Play with it's refresh rate.

    Use a less demanding Display Scheme and/or color and resolution setting.

    ==========
    Try to wait it out [This falls under the heading of "Repaired by Power of Positive Thinking"]. You'd be surprised at how many problems, mystifyingly disappear, after few shutdowns and restarts. It could happen :D. I don't recommend this method myself but it has worked for others

    Goddez1 is correct. In a previous post, I mentioned that the
    LATEST drivers I downloaded from my card maker were chaotic
    and I went back to driver versions on the CD that came with the card.
    regards
