Prior System Restore points lost after restore

    I always thought that when you restore to a prior date, you lose the restore points that were created AFTER that date. I recently did a restore, and lost all the restore points BEFORE that date, while retaining those after the date. Is this the way it's supposed to work?

    I'm not so sure that you should lose any restore points, but bearing in mind that the disk space for restore points is limited by default and also can be reduced by the user, if the designated space is filled then the latest restore point will cause earlier points to be discarded.

    Thanks for re-subjecting my post.
    When I did the restoration, I had 60 days worth of restore points. I restored to about a week prior, and suddenly all restore points prior to that date were gone. I was left with only the last 7 days' worth.

    When you do a restoration you get a message that (as I recall) says all restore points AFTER the date you're restoring to will be lost. That makes sense to me. I just can't figure out why I lost the ones prior to the date I was restoring to.

    I rarely use System Restore as I image my drive weekly and certainly have not gone back in to see which points remain.
    Which runs counter to the message you quote - don't remember seeing it off hand ....
    Or do you mean the last 7 days before the point to which you restored?

    System Restore may be fouled up - can be reinstalled, but you will lose all restore points in doing so .....

    Yeah, I have a feeling it's messed up. I'll just try to live with it until it's "safe" to reinstall System Restore. Thanks.
