    Hi Guys,

    I am kind of new here. Anyways i encountered an issue with IE8. If i print a particular website in IE8 it shows the fonts are overlapping. but If I use IE6 everything is normal. At first we thought that it was our driver.. but if I test it with other websites .. it seems ok.Then I realize that IE8 renders the website differently compared to IE7 or 6. So I thought if i would use a UI agent string of IE 6 or 7 and putting it in IE8, would it work? I know IE is using trident but will it atually make a difference on how the data is sent to the printer? Any help or suggestion is greatly appreciated.

    Welcome to WindowsBBS :)

    The issue probably arises due to the way the site is coded. Have you tried printing from the site when viewing it in Compatibility view?

    Thanks Pete,

    Well I havent tried it yet. I'll give it a shot as well. The fact I've gathered so far is that it doesnt have problems in IE6 and the printers is using PPDS instead of PCL or PS. And I used IE8 Dev tools to look into it's print css where it is defined. I also insterted this UI Agent string used by IE6 "Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1) ". Do you think this is a wise idea?Thanks again for the fast reply. I'll try your recommendations first than have a backup plan as well. Cheers

    I am no coding guru :) and know basically nothing about HTML, etc - I use FrontPage for my website which does everything for me!

    However if the site prints OK in IE 6 I would think that it is coded for IE 6 and has not been updated. Did IE 6 use CSS - I rather think not, but could be wrong of course :D

    I think Compatibility mode is your best bet and leave all else alone.

    I'll draw the attention of one of our Team Members who is conversant with these matters to this thread and see what he has to say.

    Hulky Boy,

    Lets try this, open your Internet Explorer Browser,
    Got to
    --> View
    --> Select Encoding
    --> Select Unicode (UTF-8)
    You could also try Auto-Select but if the HTML code on the page has an error it might cause an error again.

    I hope that works,

    PM from OP .....

    Sorry for my late update been really busy with work. Anyways I found the solution as well, last week. It was how the page was coded, which yes Pete you are correct. IE8 uses a different rendering engine which is Trident. Now that site.. which isnt really a website but an Intranet site for their employees doesnt have a defined print.css which means, it doesnt tell the driver how to render this site when printed so it is up to the browser to send it to the print driver. I switched the UI agent string of IE8 to IE6, which then when presented to the webserver it would present the site in a code understandable by IE6 without compromising the security updates of IE8. It did work, they are now rolling out to a IE8 on their datacenter. Thanks for all the support guys!
