    Hi,
This might be very simple, but I can not work it out.
I am dual booting 98SE with XP Pro on two separate HDD’s Win.98 on C-D-E WinXP on F.
    Canon i865 Printer on USB1.1
I have had this Printing problem now for 1 week. Till then I have had no problems at all printing in 98 or XP. My Printer still works 100% in XP, but when I am using 98 SE and click for a print job to be done this dialog box comes up after the usual command procedures:
“There was an error writing to USBPRN01 for the Printer Canon i865 cannot access the port. It may be in use by another program.
Quit other programs and try againâ€.
Fact is there are no other programs running, the Printer is not listed in the Device Manager and in the Printer Properties it states: Printer:USBPRN01 is not connected. I have deleted the drivers and re-installed them exactly to Canons instructions but when it comes for Windows to detect the Port the Printer is connected to it can not find it, and a manual detection comes up with the same result Printer not connected check the cable and make sure the Printer is on.
I boot into XP without touching the Printer and all is well.
All this indicates to me that it has to be in 98 and not the Printer or the cable. But what………..??
Could the 98 USB drivers have gone missing
Anyone know on exactly how to do this I have heard some time ago about a USB clean up in Safe Mode.
    Here’s hoping

It may or may not be the case here but, I had the same problem when I was dual booting 95 and 98FE if I did a WARM reboot. If I did a power off reboot all was well.

Does the printer work in SE if you boot to SE from a power off state ?
