How or why did it go offline?

When I try to print anything (even in MS Works), nothing happens. For a while, I noticed that the printer selected was MS Image Writer--I don't know where that came from! I would manually change it to chose HP Officejet 6200 series and then I could print.

I looked at Start/Printers & Faxes and it says HP 6200 series is offline. I believe it used to say Ready (the fax feature still says it is Ready). For the last 2 months or so, when I have called something up to print, it would take a long time before it would start to print and, once it finally started, it was very slow to print. It's an HP Officejet 6210 All-in-One printer that I purchased in 06/2006.

I tried turning off the printer but that didn't work. I don't remember what happened when I inserted the printer's disk, but I'm wondering if I need to unplug the printer, and go to Add/Remove and remove all the HP items that are listed there before inserting the HP printer's installation disk???

Since this thread has been marked as resolved, I would assume that this issue has been resolved then.

Yes, but I'm not sure that it was because I looked at your link. I was trying all sorts of things and then a msg popped up saying something about a new printer being discovered, so I clicked on that msg and the printer was back online. Thank you!
