I've just installed XP on a PC. When I try to add the printer, I get the message that the Printer RPC is missing. What should I do? Is it a hardware failure?

Hi bversmissen - Welcome to the Board :)

Is this a standalone printer directly connected to the PC or a network printer?

This is not a hardware problem, but a software problem with RPC - Remote Procedure Call.

This URL might have the answer, but I doubt it.

    Otherwise try :

Start > Run and type services.msc

    Scroll down to:

Remote Procedure Call (RPC) - Startup type should be Automatic

    and

Remote Procedure Call (RPC) locator - Startup type should be Manual

    and

    Print Spooler - Automatic

    Post back with your results

    Thanks for the advice.

It's not my PC, so a little bit difficult to test everything.
The owner has connected an other (local) printer and with that one it all works just fine. So for now the problem is 'solved'.
