In my sister's office at work, they installed a new Dell printer. There are only 2 computers in this office. This printer is supposed to work with the two computers in the office. When they try to use the printer, it ask for an Administrative Password, which is news to them. Each person in the office signs on the computer with their own username and password. What could be the trouble here?

P.S. The two computers in the office are not connected to any other system in the building so there's no "administrator" at some other location in charge of the two computers.

I am not familiar with my sister's office but I believe those two computers are independent of each other and are not part of a network. Getting more info from my sister, those two computers are not currently used for work related tasks, but for now they can browse the Internet on those computers.

    Hi Ace,

I would uninstall the printer driver program from the "hosting" computer and install it on the other. Firewalls may need to be disabled.

If it is Win XP pro and there have been strict security protocols included, they may have to get the person that installed Windows to allow access.

Maybe an alternative. If it is being run on a (two computer) LAN, set it up as a local printer on each computer and swap the USB connection over when printing.

    More info will be needed.

    Matt
