I have error message that their is no reply from the printer. I have un/reinstalled 2 different types of printers (canon and epson) and the computer still does not communicate with either one. I even tried removing the lp1 port in device manager and rebooting. Everything was reinstalled, but I still cannot print. Oh yes...I have updated the drivers from the manufactures websites too. not working. Any suggestions?

I searched the threads for common issues but the person was emailed the answer, so I did not get to try the resolution..:(

You didn't say if you had tried a different parallel cable or not, they sometimes fail. Also are your drivers for your OS (NT, XP, drivers are usally different from 9x). Maybe try 1 of the printers on a different system if you can, be certain it works. This is a process of elimination just keep ruling thing out until you find the culprit.

I am using Win98 and downloaded the correct drivers. I just tried a new cable....didn't work.
I will try the printers on another computer, but I really think my whopping 233MX is just getting too old.
If you have any other suggestions...please post them. I will try anything at this point including reformatting my drive. It's a bit cluttered.

Is the printer port built onto the MB or is there a little ribbon cable running from the port to the MB?

If it has the little ribbon cable you might try removing it and blowing out any dust there might be in there then reconnect the cable being careful about the orientation (the red stripe goes to pin 1).

    printer error

it has a cable to the MB and I made sure that it was tight, but I did not think to take it off and blow the dust out. Thank you...I will give it a try.
